Championship deadlines

The deadline to enter the Asia-Pacific Masters Games is coming up Saturday July 7. Hong Kong already has a big veterans team going. If you're over 34, have a look at

https://www.apmg2018.com/

Then just a week later is the deadline to enter the veterans' world championships in Spain.

If you consider yourself a runner and you're over 34, you should be doing one or the other.

Re: Veterans' world championships

Entries for the WMA championship meet close tonight. We have about 15 on the HK team so far. Join us!

Re: Veterans' world championships day 1

There are about 8200 in the meet from 104 countries. We have 24 on the team, but most haven't arrived yet, so only a couple of AVOHK guys in the opening ceremony parade.

Re: Veterans' world championships day 2

Our world championships took up where the Asian Games left off: Sahn Hahng Tai Bo 18th of about 24 in the M70 5000walk. Hopefully it will get better from here.

Re: Veterans' world championships day 3

Sheila Purves 28 of 54 in the W60 cross country. A beautiful course up and down through pine woods. Excellent weather.

Re: Veterans' world championships day 4

Lots of racing, but no one from HK involved. Watched 100m finals. Japanese and Brits very strong.

Re: Veterans' world championships day 5

A very strong run from Mick Wong in the M45 200m: 23.96. He was 13th of 103 in the heats and made the semis.

Re: Veterans' world championships day 6

A rest day. WMA had its general assembly and elected a new president. The next 4 world championships will be in Torun (POL), Toronto, Edmonton and Gothenburg.

Re: Veterans' world championships day 7

Mick didn't quite make the 200 final. He was 9th in the semis in a photo finish.

Willie Kung made the M55 long jump final and was 7th. The medalists were all over 6m.

Sheila Purves was again right in the middle of the pack in the 10K road race: 21st of 42.

Re: Veterans' world championships day 8

Max Siu was fighting for a medal throughout the M65 long jump but was pushed into 5th on the last jump.

It was an entire day of 10K racewalks. We had 9 racing, but all finished in the bottom half of their age groups except Billie Kwok who was 10th of 26 in the W40s.

Re: Veterans' world championships day 9

Mick Wong qualified comfortably for the semis of the M45 400. The racewalkers have mostly gone off to visit Gibraltar.

Re: Veterans' world championships day 10

Mick was 6th in his semi, so didn't make the final. With several heading home we went out for nice seafood dinner.

Re: Veterans' world championships day 11

The second rest day with more meetings. WMA has decided not to adopt the pit lane in racewalking.

Re: Veterans' world championships day 12

Max Siu qualified easily for the final of the M65 high hurdles. Billie Kwok and Lam Man Biu finished their respective racewalks without disturbing the judges, but neither disturbed the medallists either.

Re: Veterans' world championships MEDAL!

Max took the silver medal in the M65 high hurdles. He had the best start and was overtaken only by Wolgfgang Ritte, multiple world record holder and friend of the Hong Kong team from the Lahti world championships.

It was Max's second event of the day, as he had previously made the triple jump final, finishing seventh.

That's it for HK at these championships. We have Jay Smith entered in tomorrow's half marathon but he's injured.

Re: Veterans' world championships

The next championships will be in March 2019. It's indoor track, but there's a half marathon and a 10K walk on the roads. Entries are open at www.wmaci2019.org
