Initiative to launch a women's marathon in Malaysia

A group of female runners in Malaysia is trying to organise a women's marathon in Malaysia. But according to Karen Loh, a spokesperson with the organisers, the potential sponsors would like to see some potential participants from overseas runners, so they would like to have more "likes" on their Facebook page at:
https://www.facebook.com/MalaysiaWomenMarathonLangkawi?ref=hl#

Following is the message from Karen about their initiative:

The event is held by a group of ladies runners who will form a new company, but the technical part of the race will be handled by the Pacesetters association of Malaysia. They have been around long enough in organising runs.

The purpose of the women marathon is basically to enable a event for women to come together and rejoice for their achievement in running. To allow a recreational marathon event rather than a competitive one as in Yokohoma or Osaka women marathon.

It would not be as big as Nike Women Marathon, but it will be held in more scenic and idyllic area of Malaysia. We are looking at beachfront routes.

We cannot confirm much at the moment as we are wanting to show the potential sponsors the responses or interest we can get from overseas participants. We have yet to open up to our own country nor Singaporean friends to get their interest until we have some commitment from the sponsors.

This is the reason why I sent you the Facebook link to gather interest from runners in Hong Kong, that there will be ladies from Hong Kong that would like to see this event happen.

Then with this Facebook poll, I can go to the sponsor and obtain more confidence in them. All this is due to the sponsors wanting to see numbers in participation because women marathon are so rare, not often happen around the world.

We want to be different. We want to have an event where the women can enjoy a good run and feel proud of their journey to complete the 42.195km. We want to celebrate this achievement with them. (men may come but can be pacers only....:) and not run that competitively)
