SCM 2012

Anyone know the date and time SCM registration will launch? I don't want to miss the 10 minute window where slots fill up.

Cheers,

Danny

Re: SCM 2012

Hey Blurmax. Hope all is well with you. Great photos you took at the Tri on Sunday.

I know they are releasing details in Sep/Oct as mentioned on the hkmarathon.com but I'm hoping that they don't surprise everyone and open registration without advance warning. I seem to recall that they informed us of the specific registration opening date in advance in past years. I'm getting old and don't remember hahahha.

Re: SCM 2012

club members can register earlier . you should really join a club . most are not expensive .

Re: SCM 2012

Danny,

The photographer of the HK Triathlon 2011 is another Daniel instead of me.

I chose to enter the SCM 2012 via my running club coz I don't remember things well^.^

Re: SCM 2012

I am gonna train for full marathon after the AVOHK 5k last race finishes. Should have about 18 weeks to train. The only big problem is whether I am able to register into SCM. Will look out for their annual e-mail... fingers cross!

Re: SCM 2012

I'm doing around 4 Ironman sanctioned events a year at around USD$500 a piece. Clubs are great but I gotta save some cash (and marriage) :)

Re: SCM 2012

Danny - clubs cost around HK$150 per year, your wife won't even know you've taken it off her allowance!

Re: SCM 2012

On that note, does anyone know a place to find a list of running clubs in hong kong? Clubs which primarily speak English or meet near happy valley would be a plus. Thanks!

Re: SCM 2012

You can find most Hong Kong's running club at this site under the column "Clubs" (at the top bar)

AVOHK is a running club organised by expatriate runners :

Re: SCM 2012

The lowest running club fee should be $50 only.

SCM 2012 - public registration Oct 3/4

As I heard, public registration will be started on Oct 3/4 depending typhoon signal. It would be better to check below websites regularly next week.

http://www.hkmarathon.com
http://www.hkaaa.com

Hundreds of runners finished under 3:20 this year. So, don't know the requirement to enter elite group in SCM 2012.

Re: SCM 2012 - public registration Oct 3/4

Available...

be quick...

Re: SCM 2012

I have just completed registration for my wife and myself. Very smooth and user-friendly.

Re: SCM 2012

Be aware that the internet traffic for the SCM is crashing a lot of people's credit card payments. I just spoke with HKAAA and they are aware of it. Just make sure you get the registration completed and, if there are processing errors in payment, HKAAA will re-revisit the credit card issue within 10 days.

Re: SCM 2012

Just registered for full marathon run 1. First marathon for me so finishing will be an accomplishment for me!

Re: SCM 2012

Just enrolled the 10K challenge this year. Can't use the online registration initially around 1:30 pm. Tried again an hour later with success. Overall it's a smooth process for busy man.

Due to my ITB condition experienced early this year(which I just recovered and still haven't been able to reach the previous mileage yet), I didn't sign up for FM. My aim is to achieve another 10K PB. Anyone signing up for 10K?

Re: SCM 2012

hi, so does it mean as long as i completed until the credit card details and they show "session time out" - meaning they will confirm the slots after 10 days?

enrolled my 1st HM in HK and i am excited!

Re: SCM 2012

I also got this message. Can anyone confirm that this means the enrollment was ok? If I wait 10 days and something went wrong I think there's no way they'll let me enter.

  • Session time out - Your online registration is being processed and will be completed within 10 working days. You can check your entry status through entry searching on marathon website after 10 working days. Please DO NOT repeat the application through either online registration or by post.

Re: SCM 2012

I just want to enroll the race. But when I pressed the "Online Registration", I cannot find further buttons to carry out the enrollment. Is it something wrong of the website?

Re: SCM 2012

It took a little while for me too. Keep on trying - it is what our sport is all about!

Re: SCM 2012

Just registered FM. Need to keep refreshing and trying as the system seems to be jammed. Now I have a target to work on...he he.

Re: SCM 2012

I just registered 10K for my wife and yes, please keep refreshing if you see "Service Unavailable", and at one time I was told the 10K challenge was full, and tried again and it worked again and eventually registered and paid successfully.

I got that message too and called their hotline 2577 0800 to double-check (just keep hitting redial, I called almost 50 times before a live person answered). The girl told me I was not in the system, and to just go ahead and re-register. Do call first though, in case you double-register. Hope this helps!

Re: SCM 2012

I also got this message when I registered for my wife after my own. My first registration for myself was done quickly because it was for myself. However, for the 2nd one, my wife changed her mind a few times on the selection and resulting the above message after her "(2) Enter Personal Particulars" entry and could not even reach to the "(3) Review & Submit" page. My advise is to type in everything as quick as you can in order to avoid this session time out message.

Re: SCM 2012

Well, finally enrolled the 10km race in this early morning (01:20 a.m.). Maybe the internet traffic is lesser than normal time.

Re: SCM 2012

Thank you. I just tried again now and I got an email confirmation saying that I have been accepted. Looks like my first application didn't go through.

Re: SCM 2012

Hi Zephyern, better check your credit card account see whether they have double charged of it.

Re: SCM 2012

Thanks to a friend tipping me off by SMS that registration was open I managed to get myself a FM spot at 6:45.

Looking forward to it!

Re: SCM 2012

did an online registration for HM and i proceed until payment (verified by VISA) then it was failed - due to my card problem. However I am not sure whether my slot is completed. Then I tried registering again after sorting out my card issue - I got a message like this

"103:Your registration is rejected - Your online registration is being processed and will be completed within 10 working days. You can check your entry status through entry searching on marathon website after 10 working days. Please DO NOT repeat the application through either online registration or by post."

Tried calling the hotline the whole morning (soon to hit 50 times) and still no answer. ultra patience to do so?

Anyone have similar cases?

Re: SCM 2012

maggay, I had the exact experience yesterday afternoon. After redialing about 100 times I finally got a live person to answer me, I gave her my HKID number and she looked it up and said my record was already in their system, it's only the payment that failed due to the traffic. She said they would attempt to charge my credit card again in the next few days and even if that fails someone would contact me and sort it out manually.

Keep redialing until you get an answer, just to make sure you're already "in".

Re: SCM 2012

HM enrolled smoothly yesterday afternoon followed by an email confirmation shortly.

Re: SCM 2012

In my experience, if possible, try to enroll during mid-night around 01:00 a.m. (as tomorrow is a Public Holiday, worth a trial). I successfully enroll the 10km in the early morning (01:20 a.m.) today.

Re: SCM 2012

Some link warned at 3:27pm today "Almost Full" without mentioning which race. Projected from last year's experience, FM challenge is attracting more and more runners. So make up the mind quickly.

Re: SCM 2012

Maggay, I have had exactly the same error message. And the telephone number to call is hopeless - either it is continually engaged or an automated answer tells you the system is busy. I can't say I am very impressed with this, it all looks a little amateurish, even the language in the message is confusing - I mean your registration cannot be rejected and processed at the same time. It is either one or the other.

I shall revisit in a couple of days but for all intents and purposes I am assuming I am in and it is up to HKAAA to sort out payment.

Re: SCM 2012

ade69, after close to 70 calls i finally reached some helpdesk and they said they already have my record but there's some issues with the credit card payment - if they still cannot process after 4- 5 days they will give u a call. so probably ring them up after a few days and check - i assume i am in ....(fingers crossed)

they said registration is rejected means they will automatically detect those who double-register....hmmm

Re: SCM 2012

I got this message for more than 20 times by using Microsoft I.E. 8, but when I change to using Firefox, everything comes smooth. Hope this can help.

Re: SCM 2012

I've been trying to register today, without any luck. First I kept getting a 'server error message' and then after a while I managed to get through. I was aware of the 'time out' issue so I was tying to fill in the form as quickly as I could but as soon as I completed the first page and pressed submit I was told that my session had timed out and added that I shouldn't try again. I didn't even get to the credit card page.
Has anyone had the problem, and if so how did you overcome it?
Cheers.

Re: SCM 2012

I successfully registered without any problem before my run at around 04:00 yesterday.

keithchan's picture

Re: SCM 2012

Hi Patrick

Maybe you should try again after mid night when the server is supposed to less busy if spaces are still available. To get around the problem, just register with your passport no if previous one was done with your ID.

Re: SCM 2012

For those still not enrolled the race, please register now!!!

As as 19:32 of 5 Oct, Group 3 of 10km is full!!!!

Re: SCM 2012

Received MSN and email from the organiser that my application was being processed. those runners who don't have such message may need to contact the organiser or apply again.

Re: SCM 2012

You can now check your registration at the hkmarathon website.

Patrick's picture

Re: SCM 2012

After my application crashed before final confirmation I tried calling and sending emails but received no answer or reply. I guess I'm sitting this one out, first time in 7 years.

keithchan's picture

Re: SCM 2012

Now they are talking the possibility of "second-round" application (see the official website) after verifying the entries. Surely there would be one like last year because the situation was as chaotic as last year if not worse, so stay tuned!

Re: SCM 2012

That's unfortunate. Even more unfortunate is that HKAAA really do not care about attracting runners or customer service; it's all about the Benjamins to them.

At least HKAAA have found a suitable partner, as Standard Chartered also has zero concept of customer service

Re: SCM 2012

It may be too harsh and unfair to criticise HKAAA or its sponsor for not caring customer services.

As many runners recieved the message that their on-line applications were received but there were problem in the payment. It is most possibly technical problem in the system of payment services. The system of payment services are provided by the banks or their service agent. It is beyond the organiser's control if payment system cannot entertain sharp increase of transaction volume within a few days of a single client.

The organiser has responded promptly. Runners were given the message so that they know what happen and were advised what and when they should do about their enrolment. In view of last year's experience of repeated enrolment, runners are also advised not to go through the registration procedure again so that quotas will be available for the others. Announcement is also made at the official site after they have fixed the problem.

After all the quotas are filled, the organiser also makes announcement and advises the public that they will check the enrolment and will arrange second round application if some quotas can be free.

I wil say that the organiser do enough to support the runners.

Of course if we think that there are any aspects/areas the organiser can further improve, just make our suggestions. I recall that some improvements were made a few years ago after our runners made consolidated suggestions to the organiser.

Please therefore not just criticise. Make constructive views and suggestions. More important, please also appreciate the efforts and positive side of the organiser. There are too many negative views/feelings in our community. Let's contribute more positive elements.

Re: Entering SCM 2012

Those having trouble entering may want to know that the Cyber 5 on November 6 at the Cyberport is giving entries in the SCM as prizes. I'm not sure which SCM race and I'm not sure if they are race prizes or lucky draw prizes, but you may be able to find out from the website www.cyberrun.hk

Re: Entering SCM 2012

Just received the Acceptance Letter. Hope everyone's training program is on track.

Re: SCM 2012

Same here. I got my acceptance letter too.
Runners pack collection date is Sat 28th Jan 2012, from 10am-12noon., at the central lawn in Victoria Park, Causeway Bay. Same location as last year.

If you can't make it, you can fill in the Authorized Person section, but be warned - you MUST fill in the name of your friend EXACTLY as it appears on their ID (HKID card), AND you must have photocopy of your own HKID or Passport to give to your friend.
Last year, I didn't have the latter, and caused alot of stress...
