Tai Chi Anyone?
If you think running/hiking is a ‘hard’ (yang) activity you may want to balance it with a ‘soft’ (yin) one to maintain your body’s equilibrium. Tai Chi (Taiji) is one such activity.
Tai Chi is often described as Qigong or meditation in motion. It promotes revitalization of your body systems; physical stature and balance. For older people it also prevents osteoporosis to some extent. Generally the deep breathing induced by Tai Chi increases your cardio-pulmonary capability to make running and hiking that much easier and more enjoyable. By itself it is also an effective anti-stress activity if you are deeply focused while doing it.
I have found an accredited master willing to conduct classes in 4 sessions of 1-hour duration for 10 persons each either in Kowloon (Shatin City Hall Plaza) or on the Island (Chater Garden or Statute Square). The fee for each four- session class, prepaid in full, is HK$200 (Kowloon) or HK$300 (Island) per person, after which you can competently practise basic Tai Chi movements or advance to higher levels with more and complex movements. Classes will be conducted in English and Cantonese.
