FR310XT hang problem

After 3 month usage of my FR310XT, it suddenly hangs while checking the lap history and stops responding to any buttons I pressed. So, not able to power off for reboot. Did anybody encounter similar problem before ? As it has been fully charged, not sure if it can be
resumed after the battery gone. But it takes several days. Anybody knowing any alternate way to reboot it without the history loss ? Many thanks !

Re: FR310XT hang problem

To avoid data loss, you should sync it to the training centre software on your computer first before resetting. I think the left button on the watch face is the reset button.

Re: FR310XT hang problem

I always synch my data to my PC after the workout. But only the latest workout I done last Sunday encountered the data transfer error when trying to synch with http://connect.garmin.com/. The error report has been sent to Garmin for investigation. As my watch was hang on the lap history screen with no response to any buttons, so your said left button (i.e. power, mode) not works. Seems like I need to wait for several days until the battery gone and see if it can force shut down and restart again.

Re: FR310XT hang problem

Any further developments? My 310xt died while synching via ANT transfer & has never recovered, now need to determine how to get it repaired via warranty after purchase with GPS R us in Australia.

Re: FR310XT hang problem

I sent my F305 to Garmin Taiwan for repair by mail. Came back like new. But, you need to start by logging your case in the web site and they will give you a case number and instructions on how to send your watch.

Re: FR310XT hang problem

I also expereinced the same problem. I first expereinced the problem when I ran Mizuno HM last month. Soon after I started the race, the watch hang at around 1km and I could not watch my time, distance, pace ... everything. When I finish the race, I sucessfully reboot the watch by pressing power + mode button, but I have no data for the race.

I expreinced the second hang last night when I was circling in the sports ground. It seems that the watch had recorded my time, distance, heart rate. When I press 'lap' or start/stop button, it responsd. But when I finish the training and try to reset and save the data by long pressing 'lap' buttton, it count down from 3 to 1 and hang there. I'm still not able to reset the watch.

What I'm trying to do is to turn on the GPS in door for a speedy discharge and see if I can reboot sucessfully.

Re: FR310XT hang problem

I am on my second 310XT watch, after a series of hanging problems with the GPS software, Garmin replaced the watch. Problems with my first watch only happened after I updated the watch with the latest Garmin software.

I found my replaced watch starts to mess around once the lap memory starts to get full. Try moving your training move data onto Garmin Center and delete all your old sessions on the watch. No guarantee.

Avoid software updates if the watch is working fine. Join the GARMIN forum and raise some the issue there as well.

Re: FR310XT hang problem

Bigeasy, perhaps I can help you with your 'hanging' problems. lets discuss at your earliest convenience.....

Re: FR310XT hang problem

Gaylord, I am not sure you can actually help, it seems several of the members here have different hanging problems, but I am sure you can investigate and get to the Bottom of the problem.

Re: FR310XT hang problem

I've gone thro' several cycles of battery charge / discharge without curing the problem.

After that, I have eventually tracked down into a thread
https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?t=4572&page=2
which anwered my question. It seems that Garmin is now working on the problem. My impression is that the fault is somehow related to the 'Autolap' function, for which I had altered just prior to the hang that I had experienced.

What I have done was to switch off the AutoLap and did a hard reset of my 310XT. The problems seems to be cured at the moment. I'll test out tomorrow in the training run.

For the sake of security, I'll be wearing 310XT on my left hand and a 205 on my right hand on the day of SCM.

Re: FR310XT hang problem

Ah Chung, if your FR205 is working properly, I suggest you wear it only for SCM. You may just test the FR310XT for training until you are sure that it functions properly.

Re: FR310XT hang problem

You are quite right. My old faithful Forerunner 205 could do the job well. I may not need the Heart Rate data during the SCM. Heart rate data is useful to me only during training.
