Questions of a Newcomer

Hi all,

intested in marathon, hm, trail running, mountaineering (best time marathon 3:20h 2009 in amsterdam).
i´ve heard registration for the hk marathon is closed (and I´m not fit enough)
so, what for should I do the training?
do you have some suggestions?

Re: Questions of a Newcomer

Hi, I am also moving to Hkg 30 Jan (from syd) and will be staying in happy valley? Are there any recommended running / coaching groups operating out of happy valley. Would like to do 2 halves and a full marathon this year. Greatly appreciate any advice / contacts as I would like to hit the ground running!! Siobhan

Re: Questions of a Newcomer

Hi dylanmingus and Siobhan

Welcome to Hong Kong! Since you both will stay on Hong Kong Island, maybe you can considering joining AVOHK's Sat morning run at Wanchai Gap and the track session every Tue at Aberdeen. For more information, you can visit www.avohk.org or contact our user peterh (who help organizes these runs) via this link: http://www.hkrunners.com/user/698/contact

Hong Kong island has a variety of places for training, such as the Happy Valley Race Course (run on the service road next to the horse racing track) which has long opening hours, the beautiful Bowen Road, and plenty of trails at the hills.

There are several groups training at Happy Valley in the evenings, and maybe some won't mind you to join them.

Re: Questions of a Newcomer

Hi Guys welcome to Hong Kong. Drop me a line to phopper@netvigator.com and I can fill you in on the Saturday Mroning Run and the Tuesday sessions and help you get connected to the running community. This website is a great way to follow what is going on and Keith is always helpful in making the connections. If you like running you will like Hong Kong :-) Thanks Peter

Re: Questions of a Newcomer

Thanks for your kind invitation. I´d enjoy to do the saturday run or some trailrunning together.

kind regards from cold germany markus

Re: Questions of a Newcomer

Keith Knoyes's wednightruns group runs from the Squash Centre on Garden Road every wednesday at 7.00p. Very open and friendly group for trail and hill running, all different levels. Just show up and someone will introduce themselves. BRING A FLASHLIGHT!

Re: Questions of a Newcomer

Why not join some of the very best trail events in HK. KOTH (King of the Hills) Hong Kong Island is on Jan31. You can do FM ~30k or HM 19k. They take entries up to the day. Ask Keith Noyes for the details.;)

Re: Questions of a Newcomer

Hi there, I'm new to HK as well.. been running on my own mostly since I moved here. Where can I find more info on the Wed run? How long does the group run for? Hope to check it out this coming Wed. Thanks, Judy

Re: Questions of a Newcomer

Hi Judy,

You are most welcome to come along on Wednesday. The run starts at 7pm. You can change in the changing rooms at the squash centre. Use of the changing and lockers is free- just go to the desk and say 'can I have a locker please?'.

The runs always include a 'short', 'medium' and 'long' option and there is sure to be someone there who will stick with you and make sure you are on the route. The long run could be 90 minutes to 2 hours, depending on your pace: the short run around 40 minutes.

The group includes men and women of all levels of fitness- usually from 7 - 15 runners on any given Wednesday.

You can mail me at 'bblain [at] gmail dot com' and I'll give you my cell number, so you can call me Wed night if you are not sure where to meet the group. But we just gather on the steps of the sports centre on garden road, very close to the Peak Tram station. You'll see a knot of people in running gear chatting on the steps. Just come up and say 'are you guys the wed night run?'

Bring a flashlight!

Cheers.

Benjamin
