Broken collarbone

Does anyone have experience of how much time resting from running a broken collarbone requires? I broke mine about two weeks ago and am assuming that I need to stay away from running for at least the six weeks that the doctors say will be needed for the bone to mend. Cyclists (for whom this is a very common injury) seem to be back in the saddle quicker than that (and Lance Armstrong was finishing third in the Tour de France in July after breaking his collarbone in March). But running involves more upper body motion than cycling so I would guess that total rest from running is called for.

It's a very bad time for this to have happened since I am registered for the Mizuno and China Coast halves and the Tokyo Marathon in the next two months. The only silver lining is that I think I have an automatic qualifying time for the New York Marathon next November having crept under 1 1/2 hours for the half at Disneyland last month.
