Are there any 10k and HM races in HK during the Summer?

I am training for Berlin Marathon (Sept 20.) I'd be keen to find some competitive races in the lead-up to it. I am aware that the Hong Kong racing season tends to run from October to April (roughly), but was wondering if there was anything before then. Would prefer Hong Kong races, but obviously happy to go to Macau, Shenzhen, Guangzhou if it makes a difference (Not sure it does though). Many thanks in advance,

Hi cetsw There will be the TWAC Chairman Cup 10K on Jul 12 (Sun) in the evening at the Shingmun Reservoir in Tsuen Wan, and AVOHK usually has a series of 5K races from Sept and the Chung Hing Cup 10K is usually held in mid-Aug, and Thaiquain Cup 10K is usually held in first week of Sep. These should be enough (I don't mean you need to join all :) ) for your Berlin Marathon preparation. To avoid confusion, we usually post (and encourage our users to do so) information about the races when entry forms are available. Please keep checking this website often and you would not miss any of these races. You can also check our calendar for last year (look at the old entry form and the comments and photos if any so that you can have some ideas about these races). PS: I think apart from finding some competitive races as part of your Marathon preparations, a key for your preparation is to overcome the heat while doing your long runs, because Hong Kong is still pretty hot, ang getting hotter each year, in Aug. -- Runners Help Runners!

Hi, I have ran the 2006 Berlin Marathon. I can still remember the summer in Hongkong 2006 is extremely hot...or everywhere in other places in the world. However, I keep focusing not melting down by the heat and once i arrived Berlin, I feel comfortabe cool and this is the race day weather. I get my first sub-3 marathon PB there. Keep training hard Cheers Tak

You won't find much in the way of races this summer. But I do agree with the last poster that if you keep up your regular training schedule in the summertime heat, you will be more than prepared in September. You probably will have to reduce the intensity, given the heat, though. I trained last year for a 50 mile race in the US (Washington State) at the end of July. I suffered through 35+ km long runs every weekend in 30+ C / 90+% humidity. On race day, my heart rate never climbed above 140. People around me were complaining about the heat (22 C, 40% hum). I had to laugh!

Guys Many thanks for the insightful advice. I'll definitely register for some of the races Keith mentioned...and keep the training up in Hong Kong's blistering Summer heat as suggested by the last two posters. My PB is currently 3:10, I am indeed focusing on breaking 3 in Berlin. Have a good running week-end. Cheers, - One day I will run a sub-3 Marathon -

Go hard to go home! Yes indeed summer running here is tough but I believe if you do manage it you can really benefit. I have found it still quite cool at the moment though. Seems cooler than the same time last year. Or am I just getting battle-hardened? Last summer I would try to run laps at Tsing Yi and have cold showers every 15 minutes or so to cool down. Seemed crazy but at least I could manage some training. This year for my longer runs I might try the dreadmill for about half the distance. Then the remainder outside at a pace even slower than normal and take walk breaks. I hope I can just stay healthy until my summer vacation race.
