Just back from running the Kenting Taiwan Marathon yesterday (22 March) and just thought I'd share my experience.
The race was extremely cheap to enter (approximately HK$125) and was excellent value for the price. A well organised and very friendly team of staff and volunteers. Markers and Pocari/water/banana stations at every 2.5k, and a decent vest, towel, and personalised medal at the end.
The route is very scenic as you run through the national park. Plenty of beautiful coastline, hills, and impressive landscapes to keep you interested.
On the downside there is not much in the way of spectators and the temperature was around 30C with the relentless sun beating down.
This is not a race to run expecting a PB but should you miss out in your Tokyo application next year and fancy a low budget and rewarding affair then give this one a look. With cheap flights from Macau to Kaohsiung and accommodation equally as inexpensive it is easy to justify a weekend in the south of Taiwan with a challenging race to attempt.
